“We just hope it creates a sense of community, and to us, that’s done through both passive and active use, right? Whether it be a special event or just a Saturday afternoon.”
Ada Parks and Recreation Department Director Wesley Deason says thanks to an $8.5 million Connecting Community capital campaign, the newly expanded Covered Bridge Park now boasts a large playground, splash pad, pickleball courts, dog park, and new restrooms.
“Kind of on the other side of the river here, Covered Bridge Park North, we have the veterans’ memorial that opened on Memorial Day this past year.”
Ground broke just under a year ago on the improvements, fulfilling a long-standing vision to enhance public access to the Thornapple River, preserve Ada’s historic Covered Bridge, and create a gathering space for future generations.
“You know, I hope that people continue to see what we’re doing in Ada and just making it a special place to live, work, and play.”
A new pedestrian bridge provides a safer connection for walkers and cyclists traveling between the two sides of the park.
