Ground broken on Covered Bridge Park in Ada

David Limbaugh

Ada Township officials, donors and community members broke ground on Covered Bridge Park Wednesday, signaling the end of fundraising and the beginning of the park’s revitalization

“It’s a culmination of some philanthropic efforts from the community to build Covered Bridge Park, which is a reimagination of Leonard Field Park.”

Wesley Deason is Ada Township’s Director of Parks and Recreation. He says the new park 15-acre park will encompass both north and south sides of Ada’s historic covered bridge. The redevelopment will come in two phases.

“First phase will be handling north and south, and then the second phase will include the pedestrian bridge and trail connectivity, paved trail, on the other side of the Thornapple.”

The $8.5 million transformation includes a splash pad and modern playground equipment, two pickleball courts, dog park, veteran’s memorial, kayak launch, and other amenities. Deason says community leaders are excited to turn the park into a space that can be utilized year-round.

“It’ll be something for little kids, for the older adults, so just a much more diverse park for the community.”

Phase One is scheduled for completion by December of this year. Phase Two is expected to be completed in June 2026.
