Grand Rapids-based Acrisure cutting 11% of global workforce due to AI advances

Michigan Economic Development Corporation

Grand Rapids-based financial tech and insurance company Acrisure is laying off around 2,200 employees worldwide, and the 11% cut to its workforce is due to advances in artificial intelligence

Acrisure CEO Greg Williams announced the layoffs in a letter to employees Wednesday, citing technology advances and artificial intelligence. Williams stated the Grand Rapids-based company intended to use “AI, data, and automation to reduce manual work and create faster, more consistent outcomes.” The layoffs impact roughly 2,250 workers and take effect immediately, continuing in phases through 2027.

Williams stated the move was a difficult decision and was driven by the need to evolve how work is done. The company will provide comprehensive severance, extended benefits for a period of time, and dedicated outplacement support.

It’s unknown how many local jobs are impacted. Last October, the company announced it was laying off 400 accounting positions due to AI investments, with about half of those positions based in West Michigan.

The layoffs come five days after the opening night of the Acrisure Amphitheater. The company secured naming rights to the Grand Rapids entertainment venue in 2023 with a $30 million lead gift. It also sponsors the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh and the Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms, California.
