Many new visitors are expected in Grand Rapids when the Acrisure Amphitheater opens in two weeks, and today and tomorrow hundreds of volunteers will be out in the community picking up trash to help the city look its best

“The biggest clean up in Grand Rapids history.”

There have been community clean up days every spring in Grand Rapids since 2009, but this year Mayor David LeGrand says they are particularly important.
“With the new amphitheater opening up we really want Grand Rapids to look its best as new people are going to be coming into our city.”

Friday the focus is on the Stockbridge and downtown areas, Saturday on the surrounding neighborhoods. And each day when the work is done, a party for participants.

“The reward we are offering folks, Studio Park there is going to be a happy hour Friday night there and Saturday there is going to be fun stuff at John Ball Park.”

There is a community cleanup web page to register and get details on meeting times and locations. Last year organizers say there were more than a thousand volunteers.

“It’s a way to get out get in the community. Even though it’s picking up trash, I think it’s going to be great fun.”
