City leaders launched a new trip planning website Monday along with plans for managing parking and traffic ahead of next month’s Acrisure Amphitheater opening

A new parking venue webpage on the city website offers real-time parking links, walking routes, maps, shuttle information, and options for those with mobility issues.

Visitors can now reserve a parking spot up to three months in advance at 10 city lots or ramps.

“Just an option for folks if they want to use it, but if there is any concern about ‘I don’t know where to go’ or ‘I don’t know what will be filled at what time,’ this enables you to lock in your spot.”

Max Gillis is the Strategic Initiatives Director for Mobile GR, Grand Rapids’ parking and transportation department.

He’s confident in the studies showing there is enough downtown parking when multiple venues host events simultaneously, noting more than 8,800 spaces available within a half mile of the amphitheater.

“It might be now that instead of walking half a block you might be walking three blocks but that means you get to explore the downtown area, and I think that’s a great thing.”

Gillis says teams have planned extensively but are poised to pivot as they learn from each amphitheater event.

City officials also discussed DASH bus connections, new ride-share pick-up/drop-off locations, and event-night road closures.
