During the most recent Grand Rapids Public Schools Board of Education meeting, Board President Jose Rodriguez stated it will begin looking at search firms to assist with identifying the district’s next superintendent.
“I know some folks have had thoughts on looking at multiple partners. I know that Ray & Associates has been great to us in the past and currently, but I know that folks want to have some agency and some choice in who were choosing, and I think that’s great.”
The announcement signifies the end of GRPS Superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby’s seven-year tenure. In February, Dr. Roby requested a one-year extension to her contract to assist with the district’s transition to a new superintendent. Dr. Roby’s contract is valid through June 30th, 2027.
In a statement, Dr. Roby said she was “honored to keep building on this momentum as we prepare for a strong handoff to our next superintendent, so this progress continues without interruption.”
Dr. Roby was hired by the Board of Education in 2020. She spearheaded a new strategic plan in 2021. The district launched its Reimagine GRPS with Us! plan in 2023, committing $305 million to enhance district buildings and guide academic programs.
