Grand Rapids public school superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby says she is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving

“Thank you for the opportunity to continue to serve.”

Superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby’s 3-year contract with the Grand Rapids Public Schools was scheduled to expire this June. She asked the board for a one-year extension.
“There are lots of things we have to continue to do together.”

The board vote to approve the extension was 5 to 2. Kymberlie Buczek was a yes.

“Dr. Roby, I’m so happy to have you for another year. I look forward to continue working with you.”

Board Treasurer Eleanor Moreno was a no. Moreno said her no vote was a vote for salary equity in the district.

“If we are thinking about equity, there are other bargaining units and other staff who are lower paid that we also need to consider. My vote is specific to that. I want to ensure everyone is paid fairly.”

Roby is paid about $300-thousand a year in salary and benefits. She says her contract extension will help continue the district’s momentum and prepare for a strong handoff to the next superintendent:

“We have a lot of work to do in our district. I do appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve and will do so with vigor and just gratitude.”
