GRPS is adjusting their ‘Reimagine’ facility recommendations in response to community feedback.

After a month of gathering community input, GRPS announced it’s making a change to one of the proposals it originally released back in mid-November.

Originally, the district recommended a newly renovated elementary school at the current site of the North Park Montessori School, but after listening to community input, the district concluded that that particular site may not be the best location for a new elementary school.

The new proposal calls for either a new or significantly renovated neighborhood elementary school to be located on the northeast side of the city, however GRPS leaders will be taking more time to assess their current facilities and properties while continuing to review community feedback in order to best determine where the new school should end up. Plans still remain for this new school to become home to Palmer and Aberdeen students once their current schools close in 2027.

Thanks to a is $305 million dollar bond proposal being overwhelmingly approved by voters back on November 7th, the district has been proposing a number of strategic moves, including the closing of their most underutilized school buildings. These consolidations are expected to save the school district $63 million dollars in outstanding maintenance and repairs to older facilities.

All other recommendations in the original proposed plan remain, and the Board is expected to vote on the proposals during their regular meeting on Monday, December 18th.

A rundown of the district’s proposals can be found online at GRPS.org.
