The 14-week EMT course is being held at the Grand Haven Township Fire Department. The inaugural class includes 13 students who live in the communities that Life EMS now serves.
“It coincides with the development and us coming and providing ALS services to the Grand Haven area, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg, and then this EMT class kind of coincides with that to provide more opportunities for the public and more training.”
That’s Life EMS Director of Education Tim Newton explaining the classes create opportunities for Ottawa County students.
“They can also join with us or they can join with the fire department, and it strengthens the environment out here. It strengthens the public safety in general.”
EMT student Jamie Holt, a U.S. Marine and former firefighter, says his life’s mission is dedicated to serving others.
“I think this course can really help us one, become EMT’s, but two, I think it can help us be proficient and be really well at the things that we’re doing and just be good at our craft.”
Other areas now being served by Life EMS include Crockery, Robinson, and Port Sheldon Townships.
