“Historically, this northern part of Saugatuck Township was kind of separately served.”
But with Life EMS Ambulance already covering emergency response for the city of Fennville, as well as the townships of Clyde, Ganges and Lee, president and founder Mark Meijer said it was only natural to expand coverage.
“Saugatuck Township Fire District have been chatting with us for some time on improving some of their emergency medical response to the northern part of their township as well as Saugatuck and Douglas.”
The expansion is part of an Advanced Life Support ambulance-service pilot/trial agreement with Life EMS which has a test period running from June 1st through December 31st of this year.
“It was a way for the fire district folks in Saugatuck Township to get a good verification that we’re able to improve the level of response to their community.”
The new agreement is a product of Saugatuck Township Fire District Chief Greg Janik and Deputy Chief Chris Mantels’ years-long effort to see ambulance services upgraded within the community. It also concludes months of study by the Fire Board’s ambulance subcommittee, which included representatives from all three local jurisdictions.
