The Grand Rapids Planning Commission voted unanimously to advance Amplify GR and Habitat for Humanity of Kent County’s plan for 22 to 25 affordable townhomes in the 1100 block of Adams Street Southeast.
The townhomes are part of the $11 million Boston Square Together project, which has been in the works since 2019. As many as 270 housing units are planned, along with office, business and community space.
Executive Director of Amplify GR Jon Ippel:
“The building that’s currently under construction, there’s 57 units, and we have not begun advertising for that yet, and we’ve already had an inquiry of over 450 people, and so I think it just speaks to the significant challenge that we have in terms of housing supply in the city of Grand Rapids.”
Amplify GR’s community center and office building known as HUB 07 has been open for several months, while several retail spaces and a 57-unit mixed-income apartment building are currently under construction.
VP of Neighborhood Revitalization for Habitat Kent Andrew Claucherty:
“The intention in the design is to allow for the longevity of a family to grow into the space and to be in their home for a long period of time.”
The townhomes will be sold primarily to households earning up to 80% of area median income. The first units could be available as soon as 2028.
