“Boston Square Together opened with HUB 07, so it’s a 45,000-square-foot community center. We currently have 57 units that are under construction that will be mixed income affordable housing units, as well as 5,000 square feet of ground floor retail.”
Amplify GR’s executive director Jon Ippel says its partnership with Habitat Kent is investing $11 million constructing 22 for-sale affordable townhomes.
“And these will really be focused on the missing middle, so really ranging from 60% AMI up to 120% AMI."
The community input-driven Boston Square Together project has been in the works since 2019 on Grand Rapids’ southeast side. Corewell Health opened its wellness center within HUB 07 in January.
Ippel says the townhome project helps fill Kent County’s affordable housing gap and supports homeownership for middle-income families.
“Really, the focus here is to build really high-quality townhouses, a really high-quality product, but making it price accessible for folks that are ready for that steppingstone of home ownership but are having a difficult time in the city of Grand Rapids.”
Amplify GR is finalizing designs and fundraising efforts. The townhouse project is scheduled for completion in late 2027.
