The Attorney General’s office is warning Michigan veterans of a scam targeting their benefits

This latest warning from State Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office is for veterans.
She’s warning veterans about a scam after reports that Michigan veterans have received fraudulent postcards claiming they are eligible for additional benefits. The scam involves fraudsters using a postcard that seems legitimate. It has veterans call a phone number to receive benefits or rewards, only to steal their information.

Attorney General Nessel urges residents to verify the legitimacy of postcards regarding veteran resources before providing any personal information – such as a Social Security number, veteran ID number, or bank details. They can do that by reaching out to their veteran service officer, their county veterans’ affairs office or by calling the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency’s Michigan Veterans Resource Service Center. And that number is 800-642-4838.

Michigan is home to more than 480 thousand veterans and their families and state officials say it’s crucial to protect those who took an oath to serve the nation.
