Three new Grand Haven City Council members sworn in

Three of the five members now on the Grand Haven City Council are new, just elected in November.  They took the oath of office at last night’s meeting

“That I will faithfully discharge the duties of city council member for the city of Grand Haven, Michigan to the best of my abilities. I will.”

The new council members elected to 4-year terms are 51-year-old Sarah Kallio, a marketing social media and web design consultant.

“Glad to be here, excited to see what we can do in the next few years.”

And 41-year-old Erin Lyon, executive director of Kenzie’s Be Café.

“Also super glad to be here.”

Lyon and Kallio replace Karen Lowe and Kevin McLaughlin, who did not run for reelection.

Elected to serve the two years remaining in Ryan Cummings term after he left to become Saugatuck City manager, 68-year-old former councilman Mike Dora,

“I’m glad to be back. Want to thank all the residents, I think we can work together and do great things in the next couple of years.”

71-year-old Bob Monetza was reelected to serve another 2-year term as mayor.

“Welcome everyone. We have all different perspectives, different ways of thinking and different approaches to problems. That makes us stronger.”

The only other incumbent, 72-year-old councilman Michael Fritz who has 2 years remaining in his term.

“I welcome all my new members here thank you so much for stepping up and donating your time. Happy to see all these smiley faces.”
