The election on Tuesday adds three new members to the Grand Haven City Council. Tributes were made for two members leaving the council

“You have performed very well on behalf of the city of Grand Haven.”

At their last final meeting, Chris Roberts was one of several Grand Haven citizens thanking Karen Lowe and Kevin McLaughlin for serving on city council.

“You’ve been faced with many difficult decisions, and you have made them honestly an honorably.”

“Serving on council was very rewarding.”
Lowe and McLaughlin decided not to run for reelection after serving one four-year term on city council.

“We are leaving it, Kevin and I are leaving it in better shape than when we inherited it.”
McLaughlin says his wife helped make him a better councilman.

“She stood beside me for the last four years and talked me off the deep end on more than one occasion.”

Voters selected Sarah Kallio and Erin Lyon to replace Lowe and McLaughlin, and Mike Dora to serve the two years remaining in the term of Ryan Cummings who resigned to become Saugatuck city manager.

“It’s time to go and let others step up and take over.”

Grand Haven City manager Ashley Latsch calls working with Lowe and McLaughlin a privilege.

“We have navigated any number of challenging issues over the past few years, and we are going to miss you.”
