Grand Valley State University partners with Michigan Central to bring job training to Detroit

Grand Valley State University is joining Michigan Central to expand workforce development and educational opportunities in Detroit

Michigan Central is a technology and culture hub in Detroit bringing together company leaders, investors, artists, educators and others to network and collaborate.

Grand Valley State University is joining as a key partner addressing critical skill gaps by training students and workers for in-demand jobs in mobility, advanced manufacturing, and robotics.

Grand Valley will expand in Detroit fostering regional talent development and economic growth, focusing on youth by introducing early pathways to higher education opportunities for middle and high schoolers.

Michigan Central will connect GVSU students and faculty with new applied research opportunities through startups and employers in the Detroit area.

The partners will co-develop short-term credentialling and upskilling programs for adults through GVSU’’s Omni online and hybrid degree programs.

Youth programming will launch in early 2026.
