The chair of the Kent County Commissioners, Ben Greene, says police will have a video feed of the community to help fight crime

“When others are considering weakening law enforcement Kent County is strengthening it.”

In his state of the county address, Kent County board chair Ben Greene said the sheriff is developing what he calls a “Connect Kent County” system to make the community safer.

“That’s the vision the Kent County sheriff’s office had when they launched Connect Kent County earlier this year.”

Green says the Connect Kent County intelligence center in the sheriff’s office will collect and analyze data from multiple jurisdiction license plate readers, mapping software and video from residential and business surveillance cameras.

“Local businesses institutions and residents can volunteer to link their existing security cameras. By linking schools, businesses civic partners and residents we are creating a real time county wide network of coordination.”

Green says the sheriff will announce soon how residents, institutions and businesses can link their private closed-circuit cameras to the intelligence center.

“With Connect Kent County and the real time intelligence center we are innovating and collaborating to define the future of public safety.”
