JR Automation’s $72.8 million facility will sit on 45 acres near the intersection of East Riley Street and 84th Avenue in Zeeland, bringing together 350 employees from nine facilities across West Michigan.
Vice President of East Division Operations Jason Schopp explains why the company chose Zeeland for its world headquarters.
“Because of its geographic location to not only our employee base but also to the transportation infrastructure both from our vendors and also for our employees commuting from the different cities from around the area.”
JR Automation is a family-owned business founded in 1980 and acquired by Tokyo-based Hitachi in 2019. The 286,000-square-foot facility will be dedicated to customer automation demonstration.
Zeeland City Councilperson and mayoral candidate Richard Van Dorp says the lakeshore region will feel the economic benefits of JR Automation’s decision to call Zeeland home.
“The ancillary benefits of those to other businesses in the area, the downtown, I mean you name it. The economic impact’s going to be pretty widespread and huge.”
Construction is expected to be completed by late Fall 2026.
