“It’s going to put something there the city can be proud of something that will be there a long time.”

At the last city council meeting Grand Haven Mayor Bob Monetza called the lease agreement with CopperRock Construction to develop the Chinook Pier a partnership.
“And I want it to be successful financially and want it to be successful as a community asset and a draw for both citizens and visitors.”

Five years ago, the businesses closed and the buildings on Chinook Pier were demolished because of mold. City manager Ashley Latsch says CopperRock plans 3 replacement buildings.

“A restaurant space, an office retail building as well as an outdoor indoor market. Other beneficial public investments include the relocation of the mini golf.”
Grand Haven is giving CopperRock a 35-year lease. And councilman Kevin McLaughlin thinks it’s a good deal for the city.

“I mean that building is not going to make you a lot of money.  You are doing a lot for this community, and I personally appreciate that.”

CopperRock’s Greg Taylor says construction could begin next spring.

“I’d like to thank the city for giving us the opportunity to proceed on this very unique and special piece of property.”
