The board interviewed 5 finalists Wednesday

“I want to use my experience to help lift us up and move us forward.”

Finalist Paul Sachs is currently Ottawa County Department of Strategic Impact.

 “I love this county.”

Matthew Farrar is a deputy administrator in Muskegon County.

“And I think this would be a good place to spend the next 14 years of my career.”

Attorney Kurt Dykstra is the former mayor of Holland

“The administrator works for the board.”

Chris Kukulski is the Billings, Montana city administrator.

 “My strength is building relationships.”

And Patrick Waterman is the former Ottawa County deputy administrator who resigned in 2023.

“I did not want to leave.”

But said he was unable to form a professional working relationship with new administrator John Gibbs.

“I tried for 8 months to work with the administrator.”

Waterman is now deputy Wyoming city manager and Commissioner Joe Moss told Waterman that is where he should remain.

“I think you should stay in the city of Wyoming. Ottawa County needs an administrator the whole board can trust, and you are not that person.”

A comment Commissioner Jacob Bonnema thought was out of line.

“This is very disrespectful of how you treated a candidate for the administrator’s position.”
The Commissioners special meeting is scheduled for 9 tomorrow morning.
