The former GM plant is located near US-131 and 36th street in Wyoming. This is a picture from November 2010, before the plant was demolished.

The 15-year effort to redevelop the site of the old General Motors stamping plant in Wyoming is now finished as Gelock Heavy Movers will be filling the site

“Welcome to Wyoming you picked a great city to do business with.”

During a Wyoming Planning Commission meeting, Gelock Heavy Movers owner Rich Van Dam said the parcel on 36 St. in Wyoming provides the space and location his business needs.

“We need good freeway access which is what Site 36 gives us.”

“It is the third and final parcel to be filled from the former GM stamping plant.”

Wyoming Director of Economic Development Nicole Hofert says Gelock and affiliate HEL Inc. will have cranes and large machinery on the site.

“They do heavy equipment storage, transportation, repair and maintenance.”

After sitting vacant for over a dozen years, construction of a Corwell Health Service Center is underway on the site of the former GM Stamping Plant, Benteler Automotive is also building an EV battery parts factory and now Gelock.

“This proposed building is very much in line with the Corewell and Benteler buildings.”

To make way for the amphitheater in downtown Grand Rapids, Gelock must vacate their Market Street location by 2027. Thats when owner Rich Van Dam wants his new location ready.

“I’m going to be 75 in 2027. I would like to cut the ribbon on my birthday.”
