White House officials say the project is stalling because Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is not engaging with them

The invasive carp can eat its way through an ecosystem, jeopardizing fishing, boating and tourism industries.

In May President Trump signed a memorandum vowing support for a joint project with Illinois and Michigan to create barriers to prevent the carp from entering the Great Lakes.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has lobbied hard for the effort.

But White House officials claim it’s stalling, because Illinois Democratic Governor JB Pritzker is not cooperating with them.

In a statement to WDET, a spokesperson for Pritzker counters that Illinois recently hosted Trump administration and other officials to share updates on progress being made on the project.

Trump and Pritzker have often been at odds with each other, and the governor has welcomed state Democratic lawmakers from Texas who fled to Illinois to avoid a re-districting effort pushed by the President.
