The Muskegon City Commission is permitting a rental business at Pere Marquette for the remainder of this summer and possibly longer

“Our set up is two beach chairs with an umbrella with a table on it.”

Kimberly Wilholt, owner of Shady Lay-Days Beach Chair and Umbrella Rental, says her service will meet a need at Pere Marquette beach in Muskegon:

“People coming to the beach to enjoy the day and not have to worry about carrying their own beach chairs and not have an umbrella for protection. We don’t have these here at Michigan beaches.”

Last summer Wilholt says she was renting her chairs and umbrellas at the beach in Muskegon State Park but because of demolition and rebuild of the beach pavilion she is looking for a new location:

“It’s a slow developing business for me. I have ten setups. I didn’t want to over buy because I don’t know where it’s going.”

The Muskegon City Commission is permitting the rental business at Pere Marquette for the remainder of this summer and possibly more. Mayor Ken Johnson says they will evaluate the business at the end of the season:

“Our community is hyper protective of Pere Marquette Park and beach.”

Commissioner Jay Kilgo calls the rental business a great idea:

“Why? I just bought two beach chairs for the beach, so I think it’s a great business idea.”
