Defendant Jennifer Crumbley at the Oakland County Courthouse, Wednesday, Jan. 31. Crumbley, 45, is charged with involuntary manslaughter.

She argues that she did not break any laws that led to the shootings

The mother of the Oxford High School shooter wants to be released from prison while she appeals her involuntary manslaughter convictions.

Jennifer Crumbley’s attorney filed the request with the Michigan Court of Appeals. One of the challenges, says Crumbley attorney Michael Deszi, is there’s no Michigan law that specifically allowed prosecutors to the charge the parents for crimes committed by their son.

“These charges were innovative and they were different from anything that we’ve ever seen before.”

A spokesperson for the Oakland County prosecutor says Jennifer Crumbley should remain in prison because her appeal is unlikely to succeed and she is a flight risk if released on bond. James Crumbley is also expected to appeal his convictions and it appears likely the case will eventually land before the Michigan Supreme Court.
