Community leaders, advocates, and organizations across West Michigan are uniting for this “Town Hall & Resource Fair on Black Wealth & Health Inequities”

Presented by 1000 Families of Color Inc. the upcoming event is partnering with over 15 local organizations.

Tanya Powell-May is the Executive Director for 1000 Families of Color Inc. who says they’re looking to have dialogue with the community on issues of health and wealth.

“Because we’ve seen over the years, in the black community especially, we seen some disparities that are trending the wrong way. We want to have some community conversations and dialogue about what we’d like to see changed and talk about things we can do to impact the community as a whole, not only for our children but our children’s children. We’re concerned about the legacy that we’re leaving here in Grand Rapids.”

Powell-May says this is more than an event, it’s a movement. And they want people to leave with the information and knowledge to manage their own personal stories.

“So, people have their own health journeys, their own wealth journeys. People want to own homes, that haven’t been, generationally; we want people to walk away with the tools, the knowledge, the connections they need to continue to progress, little by little if they need to. Knowing this is the next step that I need to take in my journey.”

The event will feature live panel discussions on business, housing initiatives and health along with a resource expo and networking opportunities.

The event again is Saturday from 10 to 3 pm at 1065 36th Street in Grand Rapids.
