Kent County Veterans could receive free dental care thanks to a partnership between the county and My Community Dental Centers

This is the second year Kent County Veterans Services and My Community Dental Centers are partnering offering free dental care to eligible veterans and their families, according to KCVS Community Outreach Specialist Dan Zar.

“We basically give funding to the dental center, and they help provide free dental care for veterans that live in Kent County, but it can also be their surviving spouses or even their life partners.”

Zar says the program has helped over 200 Kent County veterans and their families receive free dental work over the past two years.

“We’ve heard from some who say that getting their teeth cleaned or getting any type of surgery done to their teeth makes them feel more confident when it comes to applying for jobs or going to interviews.”

The program is funded through the Kent County Veterans Millage passed in 2014 and is intended for veterans who don’t qualify for dental benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. There are no income requirements for participation.

“This is not just for X-rays or just cleanings. If there’s someone that needs dentures or a tooth that needs to be pulled, My Community Dental Center will work with them.”
