It’s a milestone in Ottawa County’s ongoing efforts to enhance care and support for veterans, says Caleb Worpel, Community Outreach Specialist for Veterans Services.
“I think what veterans need to hear is they’re seen, they’re valued, and they’re supported. The space is designed with them in mind. It's somewhere they can come and feel like they belong whether that’s needing help navigating benefits, connecting to services, or just having a place that feels welcome to them.”
Current offices at the health department aren’t large enough, Worpel says, and the new facility planned for Fillmore Street in West Olive is a more centralized location near other county services.
In addition to staffed offices, it will have computers for veterans to use, a lounge area for gathering, and space to expand for future needs.
“It’s a lot more than just an office. We’re sending a message to our veterans that their service matters and Ottawa County is committed to walking alongside them.”
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM at 12120 Fillmore Street, West Olive, MI 49460.
