MDOT says it is lifting lane restrictions on nearly 60 percent of its road projects this Memorial Day weekend or 92 out of 158 projects. The goal is to ease traffic delays for holiday travelers.
A news release says AAA estimates more than 1.3 million Michigan residents are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home over the holiday weekend. That’s a slight increase from last year and the second highest forecast since AAA began tracking holiday traffic.
Starting at 3 pm today (Friday) and running until 6 am on Tuesday 92 projects statewide will have lane restrictions removed.
While motorists will see suspended operations in most MDOT work zones for the weekend, drivers are advised that equipment and certain traffic configurations may remain in place, like temporary shifts or shoulder closures.
MDOT also advises motorists to buckle up, stay alert and avoid distractions while driving.
