Republican Representative Jamie Thompson is a package co-sponsor. She says the bills are a win-win.
“We're not raising people's taxes, guys. And we're not saddening our future generations with additional debt from this plan. This is a funding shift with money that we already actually have.”
Republicans say the money would be made available through the phasing out of business incentives… cutting spending in other areas… and a projected state surplus.
But Democratic Representative Julie Rogers says the Republican plan would come at the cost of state services in the long-term.
“We don't even know which programs and departments these cuts will apply to.”
The bills now go to the state Senate.
