“We are going to cut the ribbon” (applause)
The first phase of the 3-year nine-million-dollar project is already finished.
“A very important event.”
CEO Chris Hufnagel cut the ribbon to open remodeled space at the corporate complex in Rockford into a consolidated headquarters for the biggest Wolverine brands, Merrill and Saucony shoes.
“Could not be more thrilled to be here with all of you as we think about writing the next chapter in our 142-year-old history.”
Wolverine is promising to add 100 new jobs at the headquarters and Brad Garmen with the Michigan Department of Economic Development says the state is contributing one-million-dollars to the project.
“Investing in people places and projects that make Michigan thrive.”
When Hufnagel, took over in 2023 stock prices and profits were down, the company was coping with PFAS pollution cleanup costs, the covid pandemic and changing fashion trends. Since then, Hufnagel says he’s shifted the momentum by selling brands, laying off employees and consolidating operations.
“My first year with the company I spent most of my time closing things, that’s where the organization was. 651 days later I am very proud of how much progress we have made as an organization.”
