The Benteler Group is expanding its Grand Rapids area presence with a new plant on 20 acres at the Site 36 property in Wyoming.
The plant is the company’s seventh in the United States and will manufacture battery trays and other metal components for a U.S. automaker’s electric vehicles.
The Michigan Strategic Fund approved a $1.4 million Michigan Business Development Program grant and $395,000 from an Act 381 Work Plan for the Benteler plant.
The $105 million investment will create 147 jobs.
Steve Bates, Executive Vice President of Cluster North America for Benteler Automotive Components, said, “Michigan is at the heart of Benteler's U.S. automotive operations. In addition to our headquarters in Auburn Hills, we have been operating another facility in Grand Rapids since 1985. This investment is a further clear commitment to the region.”
Economic development agency The Right Place worked closely with the state to ensure the company continued its growth in West Michigan, organizing state and local resources.
Construction on the plant started in September, and production is scheduled to begin in 2026.
