After trustees placed him on administrative leave to “review his contract,” Grand Rapids Community College President Charles Lepper is quitting

“I move that we adopt the written recommendation of counsel to accept the resignation of Dr. Lepper’s and approve the separation agreement.”

The motion to accept Charles Lepper’s resignation followed a closed-door session. No explanation was offered. Terms of the separation agreement were not disclosed.

“Is there any discussion.”

No board member responded to an invitation to publicly discuss the matter.

“Call roll call vote.”

Trustees first reported Dr. Lepper was on leave at their February 17th meeting. That’s when chair Brandy Lovelady Mitchell introduced Lisa Freiburger, Vice President for finance and administration, as acting President.

“Dr. Leeper is on leave so Vice President Lisa Freiburger is filling in as the acting president.”

Lepper took office in early 2023. He is currently one of four finalists for president of Madison Area Technical College in Wisconsin. During a visit to that campus last month, he said the GRCC trustees placed him on administrative leave after he was named a finalist for the Madison job.

“I move we appoint Lisa Freiburger as interim President of Grand Rapids Community College effective immediately.”

Freiburger is scheduled to retire next month.
