No reason was given for what appears to be the sudden departure of Aquinas President Dr. Alicia Cordoba.
A statement on the college website announces only that she resigned effective Monday, April 7 without explanation as to why.
Cordoba was inaugurated in 2022 as Aquinas’ ninth president and was the first woman to hold the position in the Catholic college’s 139-year history.
The statement goes on to say Sister Maureen Geary has accepted the Board’s invitation to serve as Interim President, noting she is a leader within the Dominican community and a much-loved presence on campus.
Geary is a Certified Public Accountant and an attorney, and has been Vice President of Finance and Controller, as well as Assistant Professor of Business.
She served on the Board of Trustees and on the Aquinas College Foundation Board.
According to a letter sent from the board president to alumni and donors, Geary will act as interim president until a new president is chosen by a committee.
