The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers identified more than 600 ongoing permit reviews that could be fast-tracked after the Trump administration declared a "national energy emergency"

It's still unclear if the Line 5 tunnel in the Mackinac Straits will be fast tracked for approval under a Trump administration emergency order.

The deadline was February 20th, but officials from the Army Corps say they're still working to comply with its requirements.

The Line 5 tunnel made it on the list of potential projects but has not been selected for an expedited review so far.

Mark Dubay is with the Michigan Department of Transportation.

During a recent public meeting, he said the Army Corp's timeline to make a permit decision in 2026 is still on the books:

“There are no details at this time if the executive order will have an impact on this project.”

Emergency permits from the Army Corps are typically granted after natural disasters to build infrastructure quickly.
