On February 8th, Corewell Health stated it would no longer allow minor patients to start new hormone therapies, however minors who had already begun hormone replacement therapy at Corewell would be allowed to continue with those treatments.
Days later, Corewell announced it was “lifting the pause” on new hormone therapy for minors. A statement sent to WGVU went on to say, “We briefly paused beginning these therapies to allow us time to assess the potential impact that recent policy changes might have on our patients and their health.”
President Donald Trump signed an executive order in January aimed at halting federal funding and support for gender transitions for people under the age of 19. That order is currently being challenged in court.
Corewell stated, “Care decisions are best made between physicians and their patients and families.”
The full statement can be found below.
Corewell Health Statement:
"We are lifting our pause on new hormone therapies for pediatric patients seeking gender affirming care. Care decisions are best made between physicians and their patients and families.
We briefly paused beginning these therapies to allow us time to assess the potential impact that recent policy changes might have on our patients and their health. Contrary to some inaccurate reports, we never suspended any gender affirming care for any of our patients."
