Stellantis had refused to re-open the Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois, even after the United Auto Workers threatened to strike over the closure, arguing that re-starting the plant was part of the recent contract with the company.
Now Stellantis says it will produce a new mid-size truck at the plant in two years.
The automaker says it will also build the next generation Dodge Durango at its Detroit Assembly Complex and make investments at facilities in Toledo and Kokomo Indiana.
In a letter Stellantis said its chairman met with President Trump last week and reiterated its “strong commitment to the United States auto industry.”
The company’s previous CEO Carlos Tavares stepped-down in December with the automaker struggling to sell vehicles.
