Mosaic Counseling expands to Kent County

David Limbaugh

Ottawa County-based Mosaic Counseling held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today in Grand Rapids celebrating their expansion into Kent County

Mosaic Counseling has been serving Ottawa County since 1978. More than a quarter century later, it celebrated a milestone expanding mental health services into Kent County.

The nonprofit is partnering with Forest View Hospital to open a satellite center near Forest Hill Avenue and Cascade Road, on Forest View’s campus.

Mosaic’s Executive Director Sarah Lewakowski explains why Kent County was chosen.

“We had a feasibility study done here. We have a lot of supporters here, and so looking for various collaborations that we can have with agencies in Kent County.”

Lewakoski says with 260 out-patient therapists at their disposal, it’s sometimes necessary to refer a client for in-patient care. That’s where Forest View’s services come into play. Its President and CEO Michael Nanzer says adding Mosaic to their campus resolves a patient discharge issue.

“More often than I would like to see, historically, we would have people, we’d take care of them, get them out of crisis, and then 10-12 days later, their bouncing back to our level of care. Having a quality organization that we can discharge to is critical to keep people out of our facility once we’ve got them out of the crisis stage.”

Mosaic also offers a school outreach program that provides free in-school therapy for students.
