Holland Home’s Dementia Institute was awarded $379,000 from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund

“Right now, we’re based in the greater Grand Rapids area and serve people from West Michigan and beyond.”

Curt Gritters says this funding will allow Holland Home’s Dementia Institute to expand dementia support.

“And this grant is helping us to scale and to get these community resources out to another 1,500 community caregivers.”

The Dementia Institute was launched in March and offers dozens of in-person and virtual classes, certifications, support groups, simulations and products that assist caregivers of dementia patients.

“We’re estimating that there are approximately 50,000 people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the few counties surrounding Grand Rapids.”

Gritters says add to that the 140,000 people who care for those patients, many of whom are not supported by insurance programs, Medicare, or Medicaid.

“So, this grant allows us to give dementia simulation, three dementia classes, and a private consultation to community caregivers.”

Requests for local services can be made directly to info@dementia-institute.org
