Ottawa County Sheriff-Elect Eric DeBoer announced the appointment of new Undersheriff David Kok Monday. According to the OCSO, Kok brings over 25 years of law enforcement leadership experience to the position.
DeBoer is the current undersheriff and assumes his role as sheriff in 2025, while Kok will become undersheriff on January 6th.
Kok most recently served as Police and Corrections Academy Director for Grand Rapids Community College, where he oversaw corrections and law enforcement training programs.
Previously, Kok served as Chief Deputy of the Kent County Sheriff’s Corrections Division from December 2018 to November 2021, where he led a team of more than 250 deputies and managed operations, personnel, and recruitment efforts. He also directed road patrol operations as Captain of KCSO’s Road Patrol.
Kok holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice/Police Science from Grand Valley State University and completed leadership programs at the FBI National Academy and the School of Staff and Command at Michigan State University.
In a statement, Sheriff-Elect DeBoer said he was excited to bring Kok’s thoughts and ideas into the county’s conversations about what the future holds for the sheriff’s office.
