High school graduates in Newaygo County are now eligible for scholarships at Ferris State University, thanks to the Newaygo County Area Promise Zone

The Newaygo County Promise Scholarship is effective immediately, making it available to incoming freshman attending Ferris State in fall 2025, seeking an associate or bachelor’s degree.

The scholarship will cover up to $5,000 a year for up to four years. All 7th – 12th graders attending and graduating from Newaygo County Area schools are eligible.

Students can receive a prorated amount if they have attended for fewer years.

Scholarships are available to students in the Big Jackson, Fremont, Grant, Hesperia, Newaygo, and White Cloud districts, or a registered homeschool program within the county.

The Newaygo County Area Promise Zone was created in 2016 for students attending Muskegon Community College.

The Ferris State agreement is the Promise Zone’s first partnership with a four-year college.

Students will be required to attend Ferris State full-time, carry a class load of least 12 credit hours each semester and maintain a grade point average of at least 2.0.
