GRPD asking for help locating missing teen

Grand Rapids Police Department

According to police, the 16-year-old could be actively hiding and avoiding searchers, believing he is in trouble

16-year-old Cortez McConer, Jr. was last seen on November 2nd in Rockford, west of Courtland Avenue Northeast and Kies Street Northeast, when he and two friends fled from police near the McDonald’s on East Division. The friends were located shortly after the stop, but did not initially confirm that McConer was with them.

According to GRPD Chief Eric Winstrom, it is possible that McConer is actively hiding and avoiding searchers, believing he is in trouble with the police. Winstrom emphasizes that their only interest is in bringing McConer home safely.

GRPD has been working with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police to conduct searches in the area where McConer was last seen.

They are asking anyone near the wooded areas surrounding where McConer was last seen to check sheds, covered pools or hot tubs and other outbuildings where someone might hide.

Anyone with information is asked to call GRPD or Silent Observer.
