Grand Rapids police have provided body-worn and in-car camera video after officers fatally shot a man with a gun downtown Friday night

Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom provided the media with audio and video clips of the incident, saying he is committed to releasing available video of any officer-involved shooting as soon as possible to show context and circumstances

At 10:44 pm on November 8, the Grand Rapids Police received two separate calls about a man brandishing a gun near Trinity Health near Wealthy Street and Jefferson Avenue.

This is audio of the 911 call from a bystander:

“There were three guys on a scooter. We’re standing out here smoking and they came up, yelling, ‘Some guy’s got a gun! Some guy’s got a gun!’’

Video from several cars and body cameras show officers arriving to find the man at a nearby bus stop.

With the gun raised, officers gave multiple orders to drop his weapon.

“Drop the gun! Drop it! Drop the gun!”

When he pointed it at officers, three fired their weapons at him.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The officers are on administrative leave per procedure as the Michigan State Police and Kent County Prosecutor’s Office investigate.
