Southtown Lofts will be located in the 600 block of Eastern Avenue Southeast in Grand Rapids. The 16,200-square-foot mixed-use building will feature 12 affordable housing units and include an educational lab for NexGen Media GR, a nonprofit that offers media production services. The building will also serve as the new home for urban inspirational radio station, Power 91.1 FM WDPW.
The new building is being developed by Larlen Communications Inc. and will replace an older, existing structure.
The apartments will provide housing opportunities for those with 60-120% of the area’s median income, while the building will allow NexGen Media GR to expand their educational work with middle and high school aged children who have an interest in film, television, and radio. The new space will also enable WDPW to produce more local programming to better serve the community.
The project is made possible by the City of Grand Rapids Brownfield Redevelopment fund, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, and IFF, a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution.
Construction on Southtown Lofts will be done by Pinnacle Construction Group of Grand Rapids and is expected to be completed by late 2025.
