A statewide pilot program offering families thousands of dollars for upgrading homes and lowering energy costs kicks off in the city of Holland

The Michigan Home Energy Rebates program or MiHER offers federal funds to help homeowners and renters save thousands of dollars on energy expenses through home energy improvements and new, efficient appliances.

Part of the Inflation Reduction Act, the program is launching with 50 households in Marquette County and the city of Holland.

The rebates will provide funding to lower the upfront cost of whole-home energy efficiency upgrades, including insulation, air sealing, heating, and cooling up to $20,000 per household.

There are also rebates for high-efficiency home appliances and equipment. up to $14,000.

Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy is encouraging contractors to sign up now to be part of its network statewide and be eligible for bonuses on projects in certain communities.

Households may apply through the MiHER webpage once the full programs begin statewide in 2025.
