The Salvation Army will kick off its holiday giving season in about two weeks..

The Red Kettle Kick-Off will be held in downtown Grand Rapids on the Blue Bridge November 8th.. The lights on the bridge will turn from blue to red at dusk.

A news release says at the event, holiday music will come from the Salvation Army Grand Rapids Fulton Heights Citadel Brass Band and the Potter House Gospel Choir.

Major Tim Meyer, Divisional Secretary for the Grand Valley Area Command, says quote, ““While we are most visible at Christmas, we operate numerous programs that help those in need year-round,” end quote. Those programs include the emergency food pantry, housing and utilities assistance and substance abuse programs among others.
