Eight Michigan schools are identified as being under the nationwide recall

U. S. Department of Agriculture officials are releasing a list of schools across the country that received chicken products now under a massive nationwide recall after inspectors detected listeria in samples.

So far, eight Michigan schools are identified including Muskegon Catholic School and East Rockford Middle School.

Rockford Superintendent Dr. Steve Matthews says a chicken alfredo pasta was served to students but there have been no illnesses reported.

Ferris State University issued a release stating the recalled products were immediately pulled and discarded from the grab-and-go sections of the Quad dining hall and The Market store, with no indications the affected meat was served to students.

The recall involving 12 million pounds of ready-to-eat chicken was first announced October 9 and has grown to include hundreds of products sold at Walmart, Target, Kroger, Trader Joe's and other major retailers.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the recall, but listeria can cause potentially serious illness with symptoms occurring up to 10 weeks after eating contaminated food.
