Two West Michigan school districts were closed today due to threats made on social media

Jenison Public Schools sent an email to parents Thursday night announcing the last-minute closure and cancelling of all programs for the day.

The email stated that photos circulating on the social media platform Snapchat raised concerns. Superintendent Dr. Brandon Graham said the photos appear to be a copy or screenshot with the text “Jenison” added to them but did not specify what the pictures showed. The district is working with the Michigan State Police and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office but decided to close all schools and cancel all activities Friday out of an abundance of caution.

Three Rivers Community Schools was also closed both Thursday and Friday due to threats made on social media.

These closures are the latest in a string of incidents across West Michigan.

On Monday, Byron Center Schools closed due to social media threats and rumors, but reopened Tuesday, and Newaygo Public Schools also investigated online threats on Tuesday, but classes were not canceled after those threats were determined to be unfounded.
