About 4:30 Tuesday afternoon, Fruitport Township Police and Fire were dispatched to the Meijer on Harvey Street for a report of an unknown noxious gas inside the store.

Investigators observed a small gaseous cloud in the center of the store which smelled strongly of chlorine and found a small plastic bottle in the Home Goods area dispersing the substance into the air.
It was removed by the Fruitport Township Fire Department and the Muskegon County Hazardous Materials Response Team.
It’s believed the cloud came from swimming pool chemicals placed inside the bottle.
Police say four people were treated at the hospital, then released.

The Fruitport Twp. Police Department is looking for help identifying a person of interest in the case seen in the area of the chemical disbursement and then seen committing retail theft.
