The officer and three juvenile suspects had to be taken to the hospital.

Authorities say officers saw a white KIA driving recklessly around 3 am in the area of Fulton St and LaGrave Avenue. The suspect’s vehicle was driving a high rate of speed. Police say they disregarded stop signs and traffic lights.

Officers did not initiate a pursuit, but they say as the vehicle was driving northbound on Lafayette avenue, it disregarded a red light at Michigan and collided with an eastbound GRPD cruiser traveling with the green light.

Two juveniles tried to flee the scene on foot but police say were quickly located. A third juvenile had to be extricated from the vehicle by Grand Rapids Fire. The three juveniles were taken into custody and treated at a local hospital, the police officer was also taken to the hospital for treatment. No serious injuries were reported.

GRPD believes the vehicle was recently stolen and is currently attempting to locate/notify the registered owner.

The investigation by the Traffic Unit is ongoing.
