Grand Rapids Police warrant nets cash, drugs, vehicle and a weapon

GRPD

The Grand Rapids Police Department announced this week what may be the largest amount of cash recovered in a drug bust in the department’s history

On September 3, the GRPD executed a search warrant at a home that resulted in the seizure of almost $1.2 million in cash, over a kilo of cocaine, vehicles, and a firearm.

Chief Eric Winstrom says one adult male was arrested but the investigation is ongoing.

“You can imagine $1.2 million – we’re not talking about a street corner dealer selling $10 or 20 bags of cocaine. This was a large operation so we would anticipate there are likely more arrests to come.”

Winstrom credits the GRPD Vice Unit for working months on the case.

“They are going after the worst and most violent criminals and its very rare that a seizure this big and an arrest that’s really interrupting the drug trade which drives the violence in this part of the state – this sort of arrest is just unprecedented in Grand Rapids. So just a thank you to the officers that you know, I can’t even put a picture out and say thank you because they’re working in an undercover capacity so it’s nice to at least be able to thank them in this way.”
